State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) is planning to invest Rs 900 crore to ramp up its GSM and broadband capacity in Rajasthan by the next fiscal.
BSNL, Rajasthan circle, CGM G K Agrawal said the proposed investment is aimed at achieving a 50 per cent growth in its GSM subscriber base in the state.
"At present, we are placed at third position after Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Essar with a subscriber base of around 27 lakh. Our focus would be to intensify marketing efforts in the rural areas. After the network expansion, we will roll out lucrative plans to hook rural customers on our network," he said.
The company is also planning to add two lakh broadband lines to the existing 1.4 lakh lines.
"Currently, 1,600 out of 2,300 exchanges are broadband capable. We are planning to make all the exchanges broadband capable to reach out to the rural areas," he said.
Apart from that, BSNL is also investing Rs 150 crore for rolling out WiMax enabled common service centers (CSCs) in the rural areas.
"We have identified around 100 CSCs in the state in two phases. In the first phase, we would install WiMax equipments at 23 CSCs followed by rest in the second phase," Agrawal said.
