Union Minister of State for Communications and Information Tech-
nology Sachin Pilot today said India has become an advanced nation
in the mobile market of the world with 1.5 lakh consumers getting
connected to the service every month.
Talking to media here, Pilot said his ministry was making efforts to
take the benefit of mobile revolution to every sector.
''The government has earned a revenue of Rs one lakh crore with the
auction of 3-G, broadband and wireless services. India will make its
place strong in telecommunication sector in the coming time,'' he said
Pointing out that the number of internet users in the country was
merely eight per cent, Mr Pilot said the number will grow in near
future.
''Presently, 1.5 crore people are working in the information
technology sector. The Centre aims at joining 10 crore people in the
industry in the next 12 years,'' he said.

providing services in far flung areas where private companies shied
to tread due to fear of loss.
BSNL has set a target to reach 8.70 lakh new consumers in
Madhya Pradesh in the current fiscal. Besides, 1,450 new mobile
towers will be erected in the state.
Observing that responsibility of the post office has changed in the
internet age, Pilot said 8,500 post offices in the state were being
computerised so that facility of government services was available
to consumers through e-governance.
''A target has been set to connect every panchayat in the country to
broadband services by 2012. For this, 2.5 lakh common centres will
